Folks in Central Arkansas have to work a little harder to find great campsites nearby. For residents of Northern and Western Arkansas, there are practically great campgrounds everywhere you turn. However, that doesn’t mean that folks in Central Arkansas have no options.
In fact, there are several great places to camp and swim near Little Rock, Arkansas.
BEST Tent Camping and Swimming Near Little Rock, Arkansas
I chose these four campgrounds because the camping is beautiful and the swimming is great!
Woolly Hollow in Greenbrier
Woolly Hollow is a beautiful state park on the shores of Lake Bennett. The tent sites are right on the water and within walking distance of the fishing pier, playground, bathhouse and walking trail.
In fact, we named Woolly Hollow as having some of the BEST tent camping near water in Arkansas!
You’ll love the swimming beach. Plus, a snack bar is open near the lifeguarded swimming beach in the summer.
Woolly Hollow is about one hour from Little Rock, Arkansas.

Indian Lakes Resort north of Austin
Indian Lakes Resort was recommended as an excellent campground near Little Rock, Arkansas by a fellow Arkansan. Somehow, in all my years of camping, I have never head of this amazing place!

Lake Sylvia Campground and Recreation Area
“Nestled between scenic pine and oak-clad mountains in the northeast corner of the Ouachita National Forest is Lake Sylvia Recreation Area. The serene 18-acre lake is noted for its swimming and fishing opportunities only 38 miles west of Little Rock.” -source
Campsite reservations are not available at Lake Sylvia. That means that all campsite are first come, first served.
This campground offers a swimming area, toilets, drinking water and picnic tables.
Lake Sylvia Campground and Recreation Area is about one hour Northwest of Little Rock, Arkansas.

Little Rock North/ JCT I-40 KOA
This KOA offers a great swimming pool in case you want a break from the usual lake and river swimming areas in Arkansas.
You will also find a great tent camping area here and well as lots of amenities.
