One of my favorite things to do is interview the locals about the best things to do in their town. After all, no one knows the best spots like the locals!

For this article, I interviewed my cousin Andrew and his wife. Andrew is an Arkansas native (just like me!) and a resident of Sherwood. He knows all the BEST kid-friendly things to do in Sherwood.

Most unique thing to see with kids?

Roundtop filling station and our city’s first mural on Sherwood’s only skyscraper two stories high.

Located on a once well-traveled section of U.S. Highway 67 between St. Louis and Little Rock, the Roundtop Filling Station was built in 1936 by the Justin Matthews Company for the Sinclair Refining Company, operating in Arkansas as the Pierce Oil Company. It is believed that Matthews’ resident architect, Frank M. Carmean, designed the unique look of the Roundtop.

In 2010, the Roundtop was featured in “The Last Ride,” a movie about the last days of country singer, Hank Williams, Sr.

The old filling station is now used by the Sherwood Police Department as its Southside Substation.

Best camping near Sherwood?

I’d prefer to camp on the Buffalo River.

Camping on the Buffalo River is a beautiful outdoor experience, whether you’re in a designated National Park Service campground or camping on a vacant gravel bar along the river.

The upper Buffalo River features several National Park Service campgrounds with pretty scenery…arguably the prettiest in the park!  The campgrounds of the upper Buffalo River are: Steel Creek, Kyle’s Landing, Erbie, Ozark, Carver, and Mount Hersey.
