Reliance Aqua-Tainer Water Storage Review

[REVIEW] Reliance Aqua-Tainer Water Storage Container 7 Gallon

The Reliance Aqua-Tainer can be a real lifesaver on a camping trip or during an emergency situation.

Usually, we prefer to camp during the fall, winter and spring when the weather is perfect here in Arkansas.

However, we recently bought a small cargo trailer that we’ve been converting into a camper. We got so excited about taking it out that we planned a week long camping trip in July.

As our luck goes, we had some of the hottest weather of the year during that week! Temperatures reached 100 degrees nearly everyday and the heat index was about 110 degrees daily.

The best part of the trip was that we were prepared!

A few weeks before the trip, I decided to purchase extra water storage to add to my collection of favorite camping gear because I knew we would need additional drinking water during the summer heat. I decided to buy two of the 7 Gallon Reliance Aqua-Tainers and I couldn’t be happier with my purchase!

Capacity and Weight of the Reliance Aqua-Tainer Water Storage Container

These water storage containers hold 7 gallons of water. Here in Arkansas, some of the best campsites on the lake do not have water at the site. That means, you must fill up your camper or water containers at a spigot and haul it to your site.

Being able to fill up 7 gallons in one container is a huge bonus!

However, one thing that I didn’t count on was the weight of the full Aqua-Tainer. A gallon of water weighs 8 pounds. That means, that when this container is full, it weighs a whopping 56 pounds!

When my containers were delivered, I promptly filled them up. I never thought about how much heavier they would feel than my other water containers! I’m a woman of average strength and I can lift a full Reliance Aqua-Tainer into the back of our truck with no problem.

Spout Options

The product description and photos of the Aqua-Tainer don’t mention that it comes with a spigot but it does!

When you buy your Aqua-Tainer, unscrew the cap and you’ll fine the spigot underneath.

What I like about this spigot is that you can turn it on and it will run as long as you need it to. I have other containers that require you to hold a button down the entire time. It’s very difficult to do that if you’re trying to wash your hands

Another perk is that the water comes out in large volumes. You can fill up a cup of water very quickly!

Is the Reliance Aqua-Tainer easy to Use?

YES! I love the square design. At first, I thought they were too blocky. However, after camping with them for a week, I realized that the square design means that they don’t blow away when they are empty and they can sit sturdily on your picnic table without falling over.

The spigot is easy to turn on and the large opening makes them extremely easy to fill.

Durability of the Reliance Aqua-Tainer

I can say without a doubt that this is the best water container I have ever owned. We do a lot of camping and own several different types and this one is my favorite. It’s made of BPA-free plastic and it’s very thick.

These containers also come with a 5-year warranty.

Price of the Aqua-Tainer

I paid about $16 for each Reliance Aqua-Tainer. The current price is $19.76 at Walmart. However, they are currently $25 on Amazon.

Considering the quality and durability of this product, I consider the Walmart price to be a great value!

The main point here is that the Reliance Aqua-Tainer is easy to use and worth every penny!

Customer Reviews

As I was deciding on which water containers to buy, I read all the customer reviews. The Reliance Aqua-Tainer had great reviews which is what convinced me to buy it.

Here is a sampling:

  • “Good heavy plastic containers. Easy to fill with big openings. The valve works very good with no leaks.”
  • “These are great! Strong, safe to use and best of all…NOT [made] in China!! These are made by our lovely Canadian neighbors in the north.”
  • “Wife and I got this for our cabin that doesn’t have running water. Used it this last weekend and worked great. Best thing is the container is BPA free. Only down side, it is a tad heavy when filled. But that was to be expected. Overall, loved it.”

reliance Aqua-Tainer Website

Out of curiosity, I took a look at the Reliance Outdoors website to see what they had to say about the water storage container.

Here’s what they had to say:

The most popular and trusted water container on the market. The Original Aqua-Tainer is stackable when empty for compact storage and has some great features including a premium screw-on vent cap for easy dispensing, and a molded, easy to carry handle. The hideaway spigot reverses for safe, damage-free storage.
