Back in 1998, Walmart launched a new store that was 1/5th the size of a supercenter. These small Walmart stores have made a big impact.
So, what are these small Walmart stores called? They are called Neighborhood Markets and the first ones where built right here in Arkansas.
Remember, Sam Walton opened his first Walmart store (actually, Walton’s 5 & 10) in Bentonville, Arkansas so it only makes sense that Neighborhood Markets would begin here too.
I still remember when a neighborhood market opened in my town. Half of the folks in my town were not happy about it because they thought that Walmart would take away our supercenter.
By that time, we had become dependent on Walmart. Walmart had already run off all the small grocery stores so we had few shopping options at that point.
Well, over 20 years later, my hometown still has a Walmart Supercenter with a Walmart Neighborhood Market less than a mile away.
No worries.
What is a Walmart Neighborhood Market?
Walmart Neighborhood Market stores are grocery stores that are smaller with easier access.
It’s easy to run in and quickly grab that gallon of milk without having to sprint all the way to the back of the store past 5 different departments first.
Nothing is more frustrating than navigating through a giant Walmart Supercenter when you only need milk and a head of lettuce.
These small Walmart stores (or Neighborhood Markets) make life a little easier.
